If it were possible, it would be easy to bet and win at the michigan online casinos that the release of a new full size C64 reproduction is intended for retrogaming enthusiasts. We used the official wording of the new product and not Commodore because there are still open questions about the rights of use of the name but we gamers are not so interested in these trivial matters.

THEC64 is therefore ready to come back, this time in life size after the first re-proposal in mini format. Let’s remember that its original launch took place in 1982: since then, the C64 has long dominated the home computer scene for the whole decade of the 80s. Millions of units have been sold worldwide and occupy a special place in the hearts of its former owners. 37 years later, it returns with in a “life-size” revisitation.

The new full size version of the THEC64 has a fully functional keyboard, is equipped with a classic micro-switch updated joystick that connects to one of the four USB ports and connects to any modern TV via an HDMI cable. It also features three switchable modes – the BASIC of the original C64, the VIC20 BASIC or the Games Carousel mode to play one of the 64 games (not a random number, of course…) integrated in 50Hz or 60Hz, with various CRT/Screen mode filters.

As well as the classic C64 and VIC20 BASIC mode, the pre-installed games include unforgettable classics such as California Games, Paradroid, Boulder Dash and new titles such as Attack of the Mutant Camels, Hover Bovver, Iridis Alpha and Gridrunner, as well as the recently released shooter, Galencia, and the text adventure Planet of Death! You can also upload and save your own C64 and VIC20 games via USB stick and access multi-disk titles.

“We are delighted to be working with Koch Media once more to bring back even more of the most loved retro games ever on two of the most iconic home computers of all time, and which now has a fully working keyboard,” said Paul Andrews, Managing Director at Retro Games. “THEC64 full size is a reimagining of the classic C64 computer and the second in a planned series of products on the way.”

THEC64 will therefore be available on 5 December 2019. The date also turns it into a possible end-of-year gift for all those who, in addition to playing classic 8-bit video games, are not satisfied with emulators or services such as Antstream and want to have a physical reproduction of the most popular home computer of the 80s.

The market based on reproducing computers and consoles of the past has been rather prosperous, since THEC64 is not the first and will not be the last proposal of the genre. At the last edition of E3 in Los Angeles, in fact, Konami unveiled the PC Engine Core Grafx mini, a compact version of the classic 80’s console that will include an extensive line-up of classic retro games of the gaming machine originally signed by NEC.
