Nintendo Switch Online

After the announcement during the latest Nintendo Direct live streaming, the home of the great N in Kyoto has made available the first twenty Super NES titles playable on Switch at no additional cost to all subscribers of the Online service of their hybrid console (although the new Lite version will only be a portable gaming machine). For Nintendo fans, it’s the same as winning a fantastic prize thanks to! These titles for the SNES are reintroduced in their entirety and, in some cases, they will also have feature an online multiplayer mode, thus expressing not only that retrogaming feel, but also a desire to adapt to current times.

Among the twenty titles available, some stand out for their importance in the history of Nintendo and that of gaming in general. Any examples? Super Mario Kart kicked off motor racing with its mustache plumber in the company of his friends and “enemies”.

Star Fox, on the other hand, offered incredible three-dimensional graphics considering the period when it came out, using the mathematical coprocessor Super FX, and introduced the character of Fox McCloud and the other members of the mercenary team who pilot the Arwing.

Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts is a title initially released exclusively for Super Nintendo as well as the third installment of the Capcom saga that began with the unforgettable Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins.

F-Zero in 1990 left everyone speechless by the incredible feeling of speed that it offered to players thanks to its Mode 7, allowing players to create a “fake” 3D effect that looked amazing on the screen. F-Zero is considered by experts one of the most influential driving games in history, defining the standard of a genre such as futuristic racing among which we can mention other cult titles such as Wipeout and Rollcage.

Super Metroid was the third installment in the saga of Metroid and with its 24-megabit cartridge made history for being for some time the most extensive and challenging video game in terms of memory when it was released in the now distant 1994.

Lastly, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is the only title in this series that was released on Super NES. The storyline focuses on Link’s character and the exploits he has to perform to save the kingdom of Hyrule, defeat Ganon and rescue the seven descendants of the wise. The game uses a bird’s eye view, similar to the original The Legend of Zelda, leaving out the horizontal scrolling phases of the second episode. A Link to the Past introduced some elements that would become typical of the series, such as the concept of the alternative universe, the powerful Supreme Sword and other new weapons.
